It is Wednesday May 13th as we are heading for a venue called Gryphus in Vierlingsbeek , the South East of Brabant, NL. We were all a bit late because of the unexpected traffic jams, the Thursday will be a national holiday in the Netherlands and lots of people spend their extended weekend in the South. Finally we arrived and the staff welcomed us with a nice warm coffee. We introduced ourselves to the organizer of this Maiden Night Maurice and unloaded our cars and installed our gear.
After we finished a nice dinner was served in our dressing room and we enjoyed the Greek food consisting of pieces of Turkish bread, Tzaziki sauce, spinach with feta cheese, chicken and beef in tomato sauce…it was terrific! As a desert we’ve had some Greek yogurt with fruits and chocolate ships in it, delicious!
Time was running out a bit so we finished our meal and got started with the sound check. The sound engineers were skilful so in only 30 minutes we were satisfied with the balance on stage. We’ve got back to the dressing room to do our standard preparations for the tonight show. The doors went open and we were all surprised how many people came in. Maurice told us that he sold 60 more tickets tonight than during the same event last year, WOW! The place could held approximately 160 people and he considered it as ‘Sold Out’.
At about 21:40 we hit the stage with an opening song we haven’t done for quite a while; Aces High followed by traditional openers ‘2 Minutes To Midnight’ and ‘The Trooper’. We were happy to see the audience was in for an Iron Maiden party and got in to it very quickly. Unfortunately one of the PA Equalizers on stage was blown up and resulted into a lot of stage noise with annoying feedback from the microphones. It gave the sound engineers a hard time to fix it but they managed to do it. After we played some old school Maiden classics like Revelations, Die With Your Boots on. Wrathchild, Prowler, Purgatory and The Phantom we all had the feeling that this was going to be a great night.
After a 30 minutes break we came back on stage with The Evil That Men Do and Can I Play With Madness followed by The Flight of Icarus and The Prisoner. The audience screamed their lungs out while doing the interactive songs like Fear OF The Dark, Hallowed Be Thy Name, The Number Of The Beast and Run To The Hills. We left the stage but the audience won’t let us, so we returned with the audience favourites like Wasted Years and Iron Maiden.
The after party was great and a huge bowl of Frikandel pieces were served, as well for the audience. We’ve had the chance to talk to the Iron Maiden fans telling us we were the best tribute they have ever seen, WOW! The feedback was amazing, even long after the show people wanted to shake our hands, hug, kiss, take selvies and to say thank you for the great night. We should actually thank them for celebrating this Iron Maiden party with us, you can make a money doing a show but when the place is empty it is absolutely not worth earning it.
Thank you Pryphus and Vierlingsbeek, we won’t forget you and hopefully we meet again soon!
